About Jersey City
Across the Hudson River from New York City sits Jersey City. Located just minutes from The Big Apple, Jersey City offers a cheaper alternative to its more famous neighbor. Many of Jersey City's residents work across the river in Manhattan; but that doesn’t mean this bustling community can’t hold its own. Especially in recent years, Jersey City has blossomed into a cultural and financial center and has become the fastest growing metropolitan area in New Jersey.
The revitalized downtown Waterfront district has earned itself the nickname “Wall Street West” due to the many financial companies with offices there. For now, cost of living is still more affordable than NYC, although that may soon change as Jersey City continues to grow in both population and popularity.
Located practically in the shadow of Ellis Island, Jersey City still boasts a diverse immigrant population. In fact, it comes in second place in the entire nation in diversity – second only to Houston, Texas. Take a stroll down the popular Grove Street and you’ll find a mixture of ethnic bakeries, restaurants, shops and cafes. Jersey City offers both tourists and residents a fun reprieve from the breakneck pace of life in NYC.
