About Ko Chang

Ko Chang is Thailand’s second-largest island, located in the Gulf of Thailand, just south of the mainland towns Trat and Chanthaburi. The inland of the island is mostly dense jungle, much of it enclosed in the protected Mu Ko Chang National Park, whose hiking trails run by tiered waterfalls like Klong Pu. The coral reefs off the coast are a popular spot for diving and snorkeling, adding to the impressive biodiversity you can see on this island paradise. The ironically-named Lonely Beach (Hat Tha Nam) is the center of the nightlife on Ko Chang, with a beachfront party atmosphere that makes it a top destination for backpackers. Nature-lovers can hike the mangrove forests of Ban Salak Kok and Ban Salak Phet, while the Treetop Adventure Park offers more curated jungle entertainment, with Tarzan swings and rainforest water slides. More low-key visitors will prefer relaxing at the Bodiwork Spa or exploring the stalls and restaurants on Bang Bao Pier.

Co-livings Spaces in Ko Chang

The cost and availability of lodging in Ko Chang varies a lot between the tourist season (November-February) and the off season (May-October). Expect to pay a premium for furnished short-term apartments if you’re visiting during the peak season. For those traveling on a budget, visiting during the off season will give you more living space options to choose from. Oasis Ko Chang is the only co-living and coworking space on Ko Chang. It’s located near Lonely Beach, convenient if you plan to explore the island’s nightlife during your stay. Guests at the on-site Airbnb also get access to the shared work and hang-out spaces, but you don’t need to be a resident to reserve a desk. While Oasis is the only official coworking spot on Ko Chang, most of the island’s resorts and hotels have Wi-Fi for their guests. Areas like Rock Sand Beach, along the northern coast of the island, have a more laid-back vibe than the sometimes-raucous Lonely Beach area, which could be a better environment for some remote workers.

What is Co-living?

Co-living, also known as co-housing, house-sharing, or room-sharing, is a growing trend in big cities across the country. Co-living is when a group of people—often strangers—come together to share common living spaces, save money, and enjoy a more affordable lifestyle. Apartment buildings dedicated to co-living situations will offer 2 or 3 bedroom units with common areas including a living room, kitchen and dining area. Bedrooms and bathrooms may be private or shared. Co-living differs from a typical shared rental (roommate) situation in that co-living spaces are frequently furnished, don’t require long leases, and almost always include WiFi and utilities. They can also include housekeeping services and some even offer catered functions for tenants, housemates, and their guests. Co-living property managers handle billing and repairs of the building, generally through an app. The typical demographic enjoying a co-living lifestyle are millennials and young professionals in large cities and tech hubs such as San Francisco or Austin, but they are also starting to pop up in cities around the world. People of all ages who find themselves in need of affordable housing are increasingly looking to co-living as a viable option.
