What is your favorite thing about remote work?

The opportunity to do new things. I have more flexibility to work and travel, I’ve been able to be more active in my hobbies, yoga, weekly improv classes.

What keeps you busy during the day?

Life! And work.

What are some of your remote work hacks—any productivity tips?

I replaced the idea of you need to work hard to succeed with you need to work smart.  I stopped believing that working 15 hours a day was going to push me forward. It’s all about prioritizing and holding myself accountable for my time. Working remotely makes you 100% accountable for your time. Any minute wasted it’s completely in my hands. So my biggest suggestion to anyone working remotely is to find ways to free up their time and focus on the proactive tasks that will drive themselves forward. It’s all about finding balance.

What is your #1 spot on Planet Earth 🌍?

Wow, I really don’t know.  My last trip to Colorado took my breath away, I would say my happy spots are Forillon National Park in the Gaspé, there’s a great beach there where I like to chillax, sometimes see whales come in the bay.  And then there’s Key West…sigh…Key West… 🌴🌊🌴

Travel Shortlist: Where would you like to go next?

Key West, but I think I am due for the parks in Utah and Israel this spring. I’ll be in Mexico next week!

What’s the most important thing about travel to you?

Nature! Living in a place. I like to jump into the beat of the destination, like going to New York with a professional purpose or biking everywhere in Amsterdam.

Desert island game—one book, one movie, and one record—what would they be?

Book: The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, and maybe Fox in socks.
Album: Ouff…Leonard Cohen Greatest Hits (yes, he’s revered as a prophet where I’m from), but maybe a 60’s mix might keep me happier though.
Movie: Jurassic Park.

What type of food could you not live without?

Espresso and a nice croissant. Access to a decent bakery definitely keeps the happy meter in check.

Let’s talk music—what’s currently on heavy rotation?

Kings of Leon, Joni Mitchell and a 50’ and 60’s mix on Spotify. I need more Beach Boys in my life right now.

Are you big on podcasts? If so, what do you like?

I want to be, but lots of audible books while I vacuum. My absolute favourite is The Power of Habit. Will I be judged for finding Dr. Laura super entertaining and addictive?

How about hobbies?

Theatre, Improv, Yoga, Languages, does Jeopardy count as a hobby? I wish I could bring Jeopardy on my desert island.

Worst travel disaster?

Hmm…knock on wood, so far so good. A few sketchy bus rides in Costa Rica, stolen cameras. I did have to have an emergency root canal in Amsterdam, and 2 days later I had the worst head cold of my life while taking a night train from hell from Paris to Toulon—it’s pretty long.  All I could remember was bouncing around a top bunk with 4 other strangers whose feet stank and who probably hated me because I was so sick. And 2 days later I had another emergency tooth situation in Monaco. Still a great trip.
